Wings Over Normandy is a server that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, it is important to emphasize that the main purpose of this server is not to faithfully recreate historical events of the past, but to provide an engaging gaming experience through a dynamic campaign.
This means that while we immerse players in the atmosphere of World War II and the Normandy theater, we do not simply repeat historical events with precision, but rather create a dynamic environment where the actions of players can influence the course of events. In other words, the choices and actions of participants can have a significant impact on the evolving narrative.
This approach allows players to experience history in their own way, testing their strategies and skills in an authentic and engaging environment, without the rigidity of historical reconstructions. So, while Wings Over Normandy draws inspiration from the historical era, it also promotes player creativity and interaction to create a unique and captivating narrative within this historical context.
Whether you're a beginner just starting out or a seasoned veteran of WWII, you are welcome!
Anyone can connect and fly freely on the Wings Over Normandy server. However, there is a special monthly mission where certified flight groups with specific tasks and a detailed air tasking order participate. You can register for this event and be included in the air tasking order only if you are part of a virtual squadron.
During all other times, you can participate either solo or with your friends, or even better, with your virtual flight squadron.
By following the Discord channel in the "sitrep, briefing blue, and briefing red" sections, you will find various updated information as the campaign progresses. Additionally, when opening the F10 map, you will discover clear directions on where it is important to engage in activities.
Allied and Axis activities in the campaign are dynamic and will have an impact on the future.
The campaign is divided into SEASONS and CHAPTERS which, once concluded, will decide a winner and then start again.
See the scores section to understand how they are calculated.
Each Chapter has a particular game play, but in all activities there will always be strategic targets on the ground.
The F10 map and the reminders on Discord with the information are at the core of the activities, updated based on the campaign's progress.
Each strategic target is encoded with a code (e.g., TF1 Train Facility, FS1 Factory Small, FS2 Factory Small where FS is type and number is number of target).
In this example related to the Allied IH5 Industrial Hub, all the buildings with red + are DMPI "desired mean point of impact" (where you have to place your bombs), in this case are 4, or sometime using the NAV POINT (you'll see [TGT] DMPI).
Since the status of targets is automatically saved, before launching an attack on a target, check the SAT view on the map to see if the target is completely intact or if some buildings have already been hit.
Is also really important that you make a quick report in #debriefing-blue or #debriefing-red discord channels like Allied FM3 Factory Medium destroyed, as we can proceed with BDA and update all situation.
Each SEASON will have different rules and objectives that will lead to the victory of a faction.
An example could be the BATTLE OF THE FLOTs, which will see the advancement of the ground units according to the air suppression activities. Another example is the battle to conquer a big city "BIG CITY SIEGE" or the "ESCORT OF STRATEGIC BOMBERS" or the "PRODUCTION WAR"... on the discord you will be updated about the ongoing campaign and the rules currently in force and the victory points.
Now, it's time to get in and take off! Safe skies...
